Matt was born Matthew Sheridan Cardle on the 15th April 1983, in Southampton, Hampshire, to David and Jennifer Cardle, He has an older brother called Dominic(Dom),who is a year and a half older then Matt. Dom has a son, Finlay, who Matt adores.  Matt also has four surrogate brothers; Julian, Ben, Rob and Tom. At the tender age of 18 months Matt was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called Wilms Tumor after Jennifer noticed a rash on Matt's foot, Matt then got adhesions - in Matts words this means "the scar tissue kind of messes up your insides" - this ended up being more dangerous then the actual cancer, because he got blood poisoning and he ended up having to spend about a year in hospital, but thankfully, after having his kidney removed, and spending so much time in hospital Matt made a full recovery and has been fine ever since. His family lived in Bristol where Matt went to nursery school, and at the age of about five, they moved to Essex. He attended the independent Stoke College in Suffolk, then the Sixth Form College in Colchester. Matt has had many jobs along the line such as milkman, postman, and even worked in a wood factory making furniture, as well as doing many other things, but the one he stuck at the most was a painter and decorator.

Matt has been interested in singing from a very young age,  he took his first singing lesson when he was just 11 years old, he was taking singing lessons, learning the guitar and writing songs. Matt has been in a few bands - his first was Chlorine, they used to play at a place called the Oliver Twist pub in Colchester a lot but he didn't feel this band was right for him so they eventually split up.

In 2005 Matt was in band called Darwyn. They met at the last band camp Matt did. Matt's best friend Alistair McMillan was the drummer and percussionist, Duncan was also a drummer, though mainly it was Ali who played the drums. Richard was the Pianist and Matt was the singer. They were together for three years, playing pubs and clubs in London and the surrounding areas. They recoreded an 11 track album called When You Wake and a follow-up EP called Little Sunlight in 2006. I've heard both of these albums and I think they are pretty good but obviously not what Matt felt he needed and they went their own ways, as Matt felt no-one was really listening to their music and things weren't going as they had hoped. They have always remained good friends and kept in touch with each other.

Matt then formed Seven Summers in 2009 - Neillo, John Holland and Alex Baker played the drums and bass and Matt sang, it all kicked off from there,  They recorded a Self titled album, Seven Summers, which after Matts performance on the Live X-Factor shows charted at Number 6 on the Amazon Download Charts.  But obviously, by this time, Matts own carreer had taken a different direction and he was now being recognised as a solo artist. Matt didn't intend to audition for The X-Factor that year as the band was going well, so he felt he would leave auditioning until 2011, but a friend of his ex girlfriend filmed him singing in a pub and sent the clip into The X-Factor.  And of course, this changed everything. On the 21-24 June 2010  Matt found himself  at the ExCel Center in London, among milllions of people nervously clutching his audition number (219900), and despite being very nervous, through loads of auditions and live shows,  on the 12th December 2010 Matt was crowned the winner of the X Factor 2010.

After winning the X Factor In December 2010, Matt released the song which he sung in the live finals - "when we collide".  This shot straight to number one.   Within weeks of this, he released a book called "Matt Cardle My Story".

Then on October 9th 2011 Matt released his long awaited debut Solo single - one that was written by Gary Barlow and that Matt had worked on himself called "Run For Your Life" this is an amazing song and it was well worth the wait.  Bonus tracks on the single were a brilliant song called "Chemical" and the fantastic "Lost and Found." The single hit the charts at number 6.
